This black plate California car is a solid example of a Beach Sand White, very early production (VIN# 100296 or #296 of 3878) Amphicar.
The good, the bad and the ugly....
It has the typical rust in the 1/4 panels and some minor surface rust.
Includes both it's original steel doors which have some minimal rust in the typical places, easy enough to repair.
She was punched in the nose (bow) at some point. I will include a used bow section for the repair. This is not an easy part to locate!
Floors appears solid as do both key sections under the muffler and battery box.
A good original steel engine cover is included, but no hood (front trunk lid).
At some point (most likely when parts were not available) somebody made the windshield frame accept flat glass, so a used windshield frame is also included (another hard part to find!)
Probably 90-95% complete overall.
Radiator assy, engine with intake and exhaust , both water and land transmissions, drive axels, prop shafts, propellers, suspension & brakes is included with the original #s matching block (GK337HE).
Electrical system is intact and appears to be un-molested.
Bilge blower system intact.
All window glass is intact except for the windshield and vent windows.
Front seat is included which is a VERY hard part to find! (rear seat was just a foam cushion, easily reproduced.)
Top bows intact.
Aluminum trim is all there (14 of 15 pcs) except for one front fender side molding (I might have one someplace).
Low mileage on the odometer (shows 17k) is generally a great indicator of wear, or lack of wear on the mechanical components. You just don't have to replace as many parts which makes it a much more cost effective restoration. This car is a great candidate for a restoration and can be in the water again, soon. As you can see there is no primer to hide any secrets like sometimes happens nor will I tell you it's been restored as a "money is no object" quality, when clearly it hasn't been either. There nothing to hide with this car! She is exactly as you see it here, all are recent photos warts and all. If there are any questions, please do ask. I encourage you to inspect it in person if you can, before you buy it. I am about 50 miles dues north of Denver.
The Amphicar market is soft right now so prices are as low as they will ever be! This investment now will have a nice payoff in a year or two when the prices of these rare and truly fun cars start to climb steeply again. Besides, what investment can you play with and enjoy this much while it appreciates in value?
Your 401K won't make strangers into friends wherever you go! Amphicars are not your typical old car, owning one can be life changing. Sounds weird, but you will know what exactly I mean once you have one! (just ask anyone who does!) You will meet many new friends and create smiles where ever you go. My reserve is set at a reasonable number which I will not disclose so I politely request that you don't bother to ask. (what's the point of having a reserve if I tell everyone?)
I require a $2000 (non-refundable deposit) within 72 hours of the end of the auction. The remaining balance shall be paid in full (legitimate funds in my account, I.E. NOT waiting for anything to clear) prior to the car leaving here. I can store it for a short time if needed. No title, but it is very easy to get the proper legal paperwork from a title service for about $150.
Depending on where you are, I can deliver for a reasonable fee. I specialize in only Amphicars and I am also the former President/Webmaster of the International Amphicar Owners club. I will gladly assist you in any way I can with what I know of Amphicars, getting parts and general help.
